What to Expect at Your First Skin Appointment — An Honest Guide

I know that booking your first skin appointment can feel like a big step. You might be wondering what you'll be asked, whether anything will hurt, or whether someone is going to look at your skin and judge what they find.

I want to put that worry to rest before you even arrive. Here's an honest, practical guide to what your first appointment at Nuerra actually looks like.

It starts with a conversation

Every new client at Nuerra begins with a consultation — either as a standalone appointment or at the start of your first treatment session.

This is just a conversation. I'll ask about your skin, your skincare routine, any concerns you have, and what you're hoping to achieve. I'll also ask about your health and any medications, because some treatments need to be adapted based on that information.

There are no wrong answers and nothing you could say that would surprise me. I've worked with every skin type and skin concern you can imagine.

I'll look at your skin — but not the way you might think

I'll take a good look at your skin in good lighting. I'm not looking for flaws. I'm looking at skin type, texture, hydration levels, and any areas of concern — so I can recommend the right treatment rather than a generic one.

Most clients tell me afterwards that this part felt much less exposing than they expected.

I'll recommend a treatment plan — not a sales pitch

After the assessment, I'll tell you what I think would genuinely help and why. If I don't think a particular treatment is right for your skin, I'll tell you that too.

I won't recommend anything you don't need. My reputation is built on results, and results only happen when treatments are matched properly to the person.

If you're having a treatment on the same day

Some treatments — like a lymphatic facial or LED therapy — can happen on the same day as your consultation. Others, like microneedling and chemical peels, may require a patch test first, which I'll advise on.

Before the treatment begins, I'll explain exactly what will happen step by step. You're in control throughout — if anything feels uncomfortable, just say so.

What most treatments feel like

Most of the treatments at Nuerra are genuinely comfortable. Facials and head spa treatments are deeply relaxing. LED light therapy involves lying under a warm panel — many clients fall asleep.

Microneedling involves applying numbing cream beforehand, so while you might feel some pressure and light sensation, it shouldn't be painful. Chemical peels create a tingling or warming sensation that most people find very manageable.

I'll always tell you what to expect before I begin.

Afterwards

Depending on the treatment, your skin might look a little flushed for a few hours. I'll give you written aftercare instructions and explain what to avoid in the days following treatment.

I'm always available by email if you have questions once you're home.

The thing I most want you to know

First appointments are for you. There's no pressure, no obligation, and no judgement. Whether you're 22 and dealing with post-acne marks or in your 40s and noticing your skin has changed — you're welcome here, and I'll do my best to be genuinely useful.
